Why do you charge a fee?
The content and resources on Candle Scoop are all provided by volunteers. We limit the rendering of ads to provide a better user experience. Our membership fees help us offset the costs of maintaining this site and ensuring that we can continuously provide updated, useful information for our readers.
OK, I’m convinced. What are your fees?
We offer monthly and annual subscription plans. Both plans automatically renew unless you choose to unsubscribe. Our current membership fees are $10 per month or $108 per year. We also offer a Candle Scoop Elite club for $250 annually. Starting January 1, 2021, our membership fees will be $15 per month or $162 per year. The Elite membership will be $300 annually.
Why are your fees increasing?
We are offering a special introductory pricing for our initial launch. Our resource database will be increasing significantly during the first three to four months after launch. Those who join our membership site early on will be grandfathered in and retain their introductory pricing, as long as they do not let membership lapse. What this means is, if you join now at the introductory price and do not let your membership lapse, your membership fees will NOT be raised on January 1, 2021. Please note that this applies to the planned increase of January 2021. This will be considered our standard pricing and we do not have plans at this time for further increases. All members may be subject to pricing increases in subsequent years should our resource demands significantly increase. We will always notify our members well in advance of any planned pricing increases.
What is your ‘grandfather promise’?
Members who join during our introductory pricing special will retain that membership level pricing even when standard pricing takes effect January 1, 2021. For example, a member who joins in October 2020 at the rate of $10 per month will continue their introductory rate of $10 per month starting January 2021, even though the rate for new members will be $15 per month. We are offering this as a show of gratitude for your initial support. The ‘grandfather promise’ only applies if you have not allowed your membership to lapse (missed a monthly payment) or canceled your membership before January 2021. Members who have paid the yearly introductory fee will also maintain their introductory pricing upon annual renewal. Please note that this applies to the planned increase of January 2021. This will be considered our standard pricing and we do not have plans at this time for further increases. All members may be subject to pricing increases in subsequent years should our resource demands significantly increase. We will always notify our members well in advance of any planned pricing increases.
Can I share my membership with a friend or someone in my household?
Our memberships are considered individual memberships only. When you register for the site, you will have a unique username and password, for which you are authorized to use the site. Likewise, exclusive discount codes and our newsletter are meant for our subscribers only. You must agree to these terms when joining our site. Anyone who has been found violating those terms will have their membership revoked immediately, and refunds will not be issued. We are offering a service that we hope you will find useful and informative. Please respect our business, in turn, and play by the rules.
What if I want to cancel or get a refund?
You are able to cancel your membership at any time. Your membership will remain active up until your last paid-through date and you will no longer be charged. Due to the nature of our content, we do not issue refunds.
Your site was down for a day. Can I get a refund?
Due to the nature of our digital content, we do not issue refunds. As this site involves the world wide web, we do anticipate occasional hiccups now and then. We do our best to keep this from happening to ensure you have uninterrupted access. While we do not offer refunds, we are willing to add time to your membership for each day that the site was verifiably inaccessible. If there is information that you are seeking but unable to access, contact us and we will try to retrieve it for you.
I am going on vacation. Am I able to pause my membership?
Absolutely! You are able to suspend/pause your membership for up to 30 days at a time. If you are a monthly subscriber, you will not be charged during this time. If you are a yearly subscriber, the time will be added to your end date. While you will not be able to access the premium content on the site, your account will remain active in our database. Once you’re ready to return, you simply unpause your membership!
Is a paused membership considered a lapsed membership?
Yes, for the purposes of our ‘grandfather promise,’ a paused/held membership is considered the same thing as a lapsed or canceled membership. If you do pause or hold your membership during our launch year (2020), you will be ineligible for our ‘grandfather promise’ when pricing increases January 2021. We do apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
Is my information secure?
Yes! Our website includes an active SSL certificate. We also use ***WHAT*** to keep our site and content secure. We handle payments through Stripe and our email service is MailChimp. We never, ever sell our member’s information to third parties. We take your security and safety on our website as our number one priority.
Can I gift a membership to someone?
Sure! During checkout, you will simply need to indicate who the gift membership is for, when you would like it to start, and if you want your gift to be anonymous. We’ll handle the rest! If your gift recipient is already a member of Candle Scoop, the gift membership will be added on to their existing membership, at no additional cost to them. Your gift membership is only for the length of time that you specify upon checkout. You will not be charged again for the any of the recipient’s additional membership fees, should they decide to renew. Email us if you need us to help walk you through it.
I’m not ready to pay. Do you have anything for free?
Of course! Simply register for a FREE membership to access our currently available free resources. We add to our available free resources every month. Of course, our sister site, Candlefind, is always free.
Is Candle Scoop replacing Candlefind?
Absolutely, positively not! Candlefind has been around since 2003, and we are still committed to that website. Candlefind is the place where you can find hundreds of reviews, dozens of lists and guides, and the #1 Candle Company Directory on the web! You are also able to find our Shop there, where you can purchase Candlefind and Candle Scoop items. We hope users continue to visit and use that site, as it is still the backbone of our business.
If you have Candlefind, why do you need Candle Scoop?
Candlefind is a huge site and filled with a wealth of information, including our ever-growing Candle Company Directory. As we continued to grow, we found the need for a distinct set of resources, such as historical scent list information and candle making resources. Combining all this information into Candlefind would have simply made it too massive and busy. Candle Scoop is designed to serve a select audience who may be more interested in home fragrance resources and technical industry information.
What if I want to contribute some information?
Great – That is what this community is all about! While we do not accept guest posts, we do accept comments and questions from our members. If you have information about an incorrect or missing scent description, please feel free to contact us! While we do appreciate the information, all submissions are verified for accuracy prior to adding to our website. We do this as we want our members to have the most accurate and reliable information when it comes to home fragrance.
